David Goes to School (Realistic Fiction)

David just does not seem to listen to his teacher. His teacher has to continue to tell him no because he comes in late, won't sit down, and won't raise his hand to talk. David even attempts to put paint on another student. David draws on his desk and is told that he has to stay late after school. His teacher makes him clean all the desks in the classroom with a sponge. Once David is done his teacher gives him a star and finally tells him "yes" and tells him that he can go home.

I would rate this book four out of four stars. As a kid I always loved reading It's Christmas David by David Shannon. This book has the same feel because there is very few words and the illustrations do all of the talking. Without the illustrations the book wouldn't make any sense. Even though this book shows all of the bad things that David does it ends on a positive note with David getting a star from his teacher. I think that the kids that need a little more attention in class because of their behavior would really relate to this book. Shannon does a good job of getting the point across that no kid is bad just that some are more animated than others. I think that any kid would enjoy this book as long as they don't attempt to copy David's actions.
