Lemonade: and Other Poems Squeezed from a Single Word (Poems for children)

Raczka in his book makes poems from a single word. He uses words like Lemonade, bleachers, and moonlight. By playing with these single words Raczka will make a full poem from only the letters in the word. All of these poems are things that could happen in a child's life.

I would rate this book four out of four stars. Making poems out of one word is very unique. This is nothing that I have seen before when it comes to poetry. The illustrations are very basic but go with each poem. The book feels like a puzzle or a challenge. This book will challenge readers to make their own poetry from one word. Each page was a new story and the way that the words are printed on the pages sometimes make it feel as though you must decode what the author is trying to say. This is a great book and is just super creative and refreshing.

  1. Wow, this sounds like a very interesting and creative concept. It also sounds like a great model for then asking children to write poems in this same style. I am definitely going to look up this book!
