A princess kissed a frog and he turned into a prince and they lived happily ever after....or so everyone thought. The two were actually miserable and unhappy because they did not do the things that they used to do when they first met each other. The princess did not want the prince jumping on the furniture and wanted the prince to go out to do something heroic every now and again like slaying a dragon. The princess continued to get annoyed at the prince because of things like his croaking snore and having lily pads in his pockets. The princess told the prince that things may have been better if he stayed a frog. This made the prince go looking for a witch that could turn him back into a frog. The prince ran into a witch that told him she would put a nasty spell on him so that he could not wake up any sleeping princesses (because he was a prince). The prince did not want to stick around to see what spell the first witch would put on him. He continues to look for a witch that will turn him back into a frog but none of the witches that he runs into do not seem to be interested in turning him into a frog. The prince realizes on his journey to try to become a frog that he wants to remain a prince and be with the princess.
I would rate this book four out of four stars. The story is very different and takes a turn on a well known fairytale. The lesson in the book is that the grass is always greener on the other side. I found this book to not only be interesting but just fun to read. The pictures and illustrations jump off of the pages almost making the story come to life without the words. This is obviously a story written for older readers because there is a darker underlying tone but the words that are in the book are not difficult. I would recommend this book to any reader who enjoys reading about princesses and princes.
