Mama Built a Little Nest is about a bunch of different birds and the nests that they have. Each different bird section has a poem about how the mama bird of the species would go about building a nest. There is also a section that is in regular paragraph form that explains how the different birds make a nest. The book talks about birds like the Cowbird, and Emperor penguin and has full page illustrations of these birds and their nests.
I would rate this book four out of four stars. The way that Ward made this book is very unique. Having not only regular paragraphs about the birds and their nests but also poems is something very cool. The different types of birds in the book are not just well known birds either so as I was reading the book I learned many new interesting facts. The book does not feel like an informational text either because the pictures tell a story of their own. I thoroughly enjoyed reading and learning new things about the birds and their nests. I would recommend this book for any young reader who likes birds and wants to learn new things about birds and their nests.
