There is this seed that every other seed thinks is bad. When the other seeds think the bad seed can't hear them they say "there goes a bad seed". The bad seed never puts things back where they belong and is late to everything. He never washes his hands and lies about pointless things. The bad seed wasn't always bad he was born a humble seed on a sunflower in a pretty average field. The bad seed had a huge family that he was close too until the flower that they lived on died. The seed was put into a bag and a human or in the seeds words a "giant" attempted to eat him. He was spit out of the "giants" mouth and that is when he became a bad seed. The bad seed decided that he did not want to be a bad seed anymore after looking at himself in the mirror and thinking. The seed takes it one day at a time trying to be a better seed than he was the day before.
I would rate this book three stars out of four. I don't think I've ever read a children's book that incorporated the main character being "bad". John does a great job with the story because even though the bad seed talks about the bad things he does, it is very obvious that other people should not do those things. Young readers won't be confused and think it's cool to be bad and do bad things. The story overall just seems to be so much more unique than most other children stories. I would recommend this to any child or young reader who may not enjoy simple books like "Green Eggs and Ham" or "Cat and the Hat".
